From The Maryville Tribune, March 15, 1900, page 1:
"A.W. Brownee, who lived four and one half miles northeast of Maitland was found dead near a haystack on his farm Tuesday morning. Mr. Brownlee was a large, fleshy man and although positive information regarding the cause of his death has not been received in Maryville, it is supposed it was due to heart failure or apoplexy.
Mr. Brownlee had lived in the Maitland vicinity for a number of years and was about 50 years old. He was a prominent farmer and stock raiser and a director of the Maitland Fair.
Miles McNeal of Maryville was a brother-in-law of Brownlee. He started for Maitland Tuesday afternoon expecting to remain until after the funeral."
