Last rites for James W. Barker, Civil Air Patrol observer who was killed in a plane crash on Cucamonga Peak, were observed in the First Baptist Church of Van Nuys, with interment in Glen Haven Memorial Park. He and CAP pilot Vern O. MacDonald were on a search mission for a missing aircraft when their plane crashed on the southeast ridge of the Peak near Mt. Baldy. They were both members of the CAP Squadron 33 of the Van Nuys Patrol and also members of the Los Angeles Fire Department. Mr. Barker was assigned as a fireman to Engine Company 39-A, Van Nuys. He was a past commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Resseda Post 2660, and had served as public information officer for the local CAP squadron. He was survived by his wife Hilda Helen nee McGivney, two children, his parents Charles W. Barker and Ozella Thrasher Barker, brother C. W. Barker Jr., and sisters Dorothea Shelton and Lelois Barnes.
