Marvin was born on July 21, 1927, at Winner, S.D., to Royal and Hazel (Peters) Styer. He attended the Palouse schools and graduated from Palouse High School in 1945.

Marvin joined the United States Army and served in the Army after World War II.

He married Dorothy Batten on Oct. 20, 1950, at Palouse, and the couple made their home south of Palouse. Mr. Styer was a union carpenter and worked on many projects in the Pacific Northwest. Mrs. Styer died in 2008. The couple also operated "The Store" country collectibles for several years.

Marvin was a member of the Carpenters Union Local No. 313, Moscow, lifetime member of the Potlatch Post No. 10300 Veterans of Foreign Wars in Potlatch, and also a former member of the Palouse Lions Club.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Gerald Styer.
