TOM DENGER -- Ankeny

On November 21, 2005 Tom went to be with the Lord from heart disease at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. He was born in Dows, IA on February 1, 1922, and graduated from high school there. He moved to California and enrolled in medical school. World War II broke out, and he joined the cause. He was a decorated military veteran, and he was part of the greatest generation. He was a member of the American Legion. He married his high school sweetheart Mavis Vandervort, and they had four boys, Steve and Mike of Panora, IA, Ed of Ankeny and Chuck of Des Moines; eight grandchildren and eleven great- grandchildren. He was married to his wife for 63 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Webb, Damon and Doug, and one sister, Mardene. Tom started a hatchery in Dows, was in sales for Golden Sun Feeds, and later COMS College in Des Moines, where he retired. Tom helped many and will be missed. The funeral service will be 5 p.m. Friday, November 25, 2005 at Ankeny Funeral Home, Ankeny, IA with a visitation from 4 to 5 p.m. prior to the service. A graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 26 at Fairview Cemetery in Dows, IA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the American Legion Post # 523 or Ankeny Baptist Church.
