From a 1907 Nance County, Nebraska, newspaper clipping file, transcribed by Linda Berney:

Friends of Mrs. Wm. Abel living north of town were saddened by the news of her sudden death Tuesday evening. She had been suffering a slight bronchial trouble, the result of a cold caught in driving across from St. Edwards a few days ago, however, she was not considered seriously ill and seemed unusually bright and cheerful that evening. About 8 o'clock as she sat up in bed talking with members of her family, she suddenly exclaimed, "Oh my!" and fell back dead. All possible aid was given her but death was instantaneous.

Mary Rebecca Hutton Abel, the oldest daughter of James and Matilda Hutton, was born in Jefferson Co., Ohio, October 3rd, 1844, and passed away October 15th, 1907 at the age of 63 years and 12 days.

Of her father's family of 9 children, but 3 remain on Times Shore, two daughters and one son. One sister, Mrs. E. D. Barber of Kansas City, is with us today.

The deceased was united in marriage to Mr. Wm. Able in Ottawa, Illinois Sept. 5th 1865, to this union were born 3 sons and one was given back to God in infancy. Two sons and a husband mourn the loss of earth's dearest friend, wife
and mother. The sons are Albert D. and Dr. Charles W., both married and have homes of their own.....present at the last sad rites was her youngest sister, Dr. Helen M. Barber of Kansas City....
