NOTE: In 1927, Helen's sister, Aliene, died after giving birth to her first child, Richard Norman Walden. 1.) BRACKENBURY—CLIFFORD
The home of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Brackenbury was the scene on last Thursday of one of the most charming weddings which have occurred in Lamoni for some time, when their daughter, Helen was united to Mr. Cornelius M. Clifford of Ontario.
The house was beautifully decorated in yellow and white, the work of Misses Helen Bootman, Jeanette Leetun, Lucy White, and Lena Wells, girlfriends of the bride. The curtains in the bay window in the living room were draped in hearts of yellow roses and ferns which formed an artistic background for the bridal party during the ceremony.
At three o'clock Miss Lena Wells sang, "Because" after which Miss Mabel Carlile sounded the strains of the wedding march from the opera "A Midsummer Night's Dream," and the bride on the arm of her father, and attended by her sister, Aileen[sic], came down the stairs and was met at the altar by the groom, his attendant, Mr. Wallace Brackenbury, brother of the bride, and the officiating minister, Elder C. E. Wight. A very impressive ring ceremony united the couple after the bride's father had given her to the bridegroom according to the usual custom.
After congratulations, an appropriate luncheon, prepared by the bride's mother, was served by tun of the girlfriends of the bride, namely, Veta Hammer, Ruth Grenawalt, Viola Hopkins, Agnes Luff, Mildred Mather, Eva Frink, and the four mentioned above.
The bride was beautiful in her simple gown of tan satin trimmed in self color beads and georgette and carried a bouquet of Killarney roses. The bridesmaid wore a costume of apricot georgette and carried carnations.
Helen is the oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Brackenbury and has lived in Lamoni all her life where she has made an enviable reputation for her purity and real worth. Mr. Clifford is a young missionary in the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, having just completed the course in Religious Education at Graceland. During his year in Lamoni, he has made many warm friend.
The happy couple left on the night train for points in Michigan and Ontario to visit Mr. Clifford's people, attending a Clifford family reunion at Port Huron, Michigan, last Saturday. They expect to be gone about a month when they will return to Lamoni for a short time before sailing for Africa, where they go as missionaries, August 15.
The out-of-town guests were Agnes Luff and Mrs. Nobles [paternal aunt] of Independence, Missouri; Miss Grace Hansen [maternal aunt] of Persia, Iowa; Mrs. A. H. Hansen [maternal aunt-in-law], of Modale, Iowa; Mrs. Mary Wind [maternal aunt], Council Bluffs, Iowa; Mrs. W. J. Mather, Des Moines, Iowa.

2.) WILL NOT GO NOW
Apostle Aylor has received word that the British Embassy at Washington has refused him entrance to South Africa as a missionary. This will also affect our local missionaries, Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius Clifford, and Mr. and Mrs. Kieth Rogers who were going with him. The matter will be appealed and likely decided favorably later.
