SHELBY: VERNON E. BURKS, age 92, resident of Shelby died Monday March 10, 2014 in Edgewood Manor of Port Clinton, Ohio.

Born August 27, 1921 in Wyandot County, Ohio to Arthur and Bessie (Courtad) Burks, he was a 1941 graduate of Upper Sandusky High School and a Shelby resident the majority of his life.

He was employed as a crane operator with Ohio Seamless Tube, retiring after 30 years of service. Vernon was a 50 year member of PennOhio, Shelman and MARC Ford Model "A" Clubs.

Vern enjoyed fishing, jig-saw puzzles, but most importantly he enjoyed restoring, driving and showing his Model "A" cars to friends and family. He looked forward to every Wednesday evening when he would dine out with his close group of friends.

Survivors include two sons, Larry (Cindy) Burks of Port Clinton, Ohio and James Burks of Shelby; one sister, Doris (Kenneth) Beck of Ganges, Ohio; and one brother, Harold (Alberta) Burks of Shelby; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene (Monn) Burks; two sisters, Betty (Bill) Russell and Jean (Lewis) Pfeifer.

Funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday March 14, 2014 at the Barkdull Funeral Home in Shelby. Pastor Roy Wallace will officiate with interment at Old Mission Cemetery, Upper Sandusky, Ohio. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Memorial expressions may be made to Shelman Ford Model "A" Club and Stein Hospice, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, Ohio, 44870.
