Charles S. Gerstenecker, 80, of Collinsville, died at 12:22 p.m. Monday in St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Belleville.
He was a retired coal miner.
He was born July 18, 1890, the son of James and Katherine Maurer Gerstenecker. His wife was the late Frieda Diepholz Gerstenecker. She died Aug. 1, 1970.
Survivors are a son, Charles H. Gerstenecker of Collinsville; daughters Mrs. David (Frances) Brett of Decatur; Mrs. Louis (Neva) Jackstadt of Collinsville, Mrs. Phillip (Carol) Curran of North Waterford, Me., Mrs. James (Charlotte) Eckart of The Dalles, Ore., and Mrs. Peter (Joan) Clark of Fulton, Mo.; a brother, James Gerstenecker of Centralia, and sisters, Mrs. Chris (Nell) Gunkel of Collinsville, and Josephine Gerstenecker and Mrs. George (Maude) Wittmann, both of Troy.
Also surviving are 20 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Four brothers are deceased.
Friends may call at the Herr Funeral Home in Collinsville after 2 p.m. Wednesday until 9:30 a.m. Thursday.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Holy Cross Lutheran Church at Collinsville; burial will be in the church cemetery.
