Velma L. Turner, 90, of Herrin, formerly of Marion, passed away 10:15 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at Shawnee Christian Nursing Center in Herrin.
Velma formerly worked as a cashier at Foodland Grocery in Marion.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Marion.
Velma was born November 21, 1923 in Pope County, IL to Delmon and Charity (Anderson) Neighbors.
Velma was united in marriage with Ocie O. Turner in 1942 in Eldorado, IL. He preceded her in death on August 16, 1988.
Surviving are a daughter-in-law, Marilyn Turner of Energy; four grandchildren, Trish (Doug) Sachtleben of Red Bud, Jamie (Tom) Anderson of Belleville, Jimmy (Julie) Davis of Belleville, Sherrie (Jeff) Litherland of Carbondale; fIve great grandchildren, Samantha Lee, Dylan Litherland, Hunter Davis, Hannah Davis and Ava Anderson.
She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Darrell O. Turner, two daughters, Cynthia Turner and Linda Davis; parents; four brothers, Raymond Neighbors, Louie Neighbors, Harry Neighbors, Elvis Neighbors and two sisters, Bessie Loveless and Helen Perryman.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 8, 2014 at Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home in Herrin with Dr. Bob Dickerson officiating. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
