Funeral services for Lupe R. Cortez, 75, of East Moline, IL, will be 10:00AM Monday at the St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline. Visitation will be 3:00-6:00PM Sunday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 2:30 PM at the funeral home. Mrs. Cortez died Thursday, December 16, 2010 at Trinity Rock Island, IL, surrounded by her family. Memorials may be made to the family.
Lupe Vasquez was born September 10, 1935 in Moline, IL, the daughter of Paul and Rose Gomez Vasquez. She married Bernard J. Cortez May 25, 1951 in Horton, KS. He died October 26, 2005. She had worked at the former Garden Terrace, East Moline. Lupe had been a devoted Catholic and had been a life member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, East Moline. She had been a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She welcomed anyone in her home and was always putting others first. She enjoyed the holidays. Her family loved gathering at grandma's house on Sunday.
Survivors include daughter, Diane (Dale) Duckworth of Davenport, IA, sons, Dave Cortez, of East Moline, Larry (Bertha) Cortez of East Moline, Marcus (Laura) Cortez of Rock Island, Mario (Paola) Cortez of Albuquerque, NM; 19 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great-granddaughter.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Bernard "Butch" Cortez Jr., and infant brother, Jessie Vasquez.
