Cato, 85, years of age, also known as Olney to some and Jeff to others, passed away in his sleep Thursday, February 24, 2005, at his home in Evening Shade Community nine miles north of Vian, Oklahoma.
He would want you to know something about himself. He was born on the banks of the Ouachita River in Polk County, Arkansas on the 23 of November 1919. At the age of 7, he was milking cows and chopping cotton, you can see he was brought up to work.
Now I will skip the next 14 years and go to the age of 21. He was drafted into the Armed Services sent to Fort Sill, Oklahoma, On December 1, 1941. Four months later we boarded a train and were sent to Fort Devans, Massachusetts. The months later we boarded a train for Fort Ord, California. We then boarded a troop ship for destinations unknown, which turned out to be the South Pacific. This turned out to be South Australia. After much combat he was on June 25, 1945 honorably discharged from the 32nd infantry division and proud of his service. He was a Purple Heart recipient.
On March 12, 1945 he married Cornelia Morris. They lived in Colorado, then move(d) to Wichita, Kansas where he was employed at Cessna Aircraft and Lear Jet. When he left Lear Jet he was superintendent of inspection of manufacturing. In 1972 he and his wife moved to Vian, Oklahoma where he was involved in local Politics, often writing letters to editors, and began submitting his Memoirs for publication in 2000 until he was no longer able to write.
He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, his children, his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and his sites and may nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was held at Blacgum (sic) Baptist Church, with burial at Box Cemetery with full military honors.
