Passed away peacefully with her family by her side at the age of 95. Lena was born on the farm the 6th of 14 children born to Cora and Edward Friedrick. Growing up in the Lac Qui Parle district, she perfected the arts of cooking, sewing, tending children and gardening. She married Art Cooling in 1938, and they began raising their family in the Estevan area. In 1961, they moved to Southey, where they eventually retired. For the last four years, Lena resided in Cupar, SK at Shalom. Lena loved playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also loved gardening and sitting in on a good card game. Some of her happiest moments were spent camping and fishing, travelling to BC, Manitoba, and Hawaii, and visiting with her neighbours and friends. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters Fern Cooling of Victoria, and Elsie (John) Strahm of Southey; along with 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She will also be sadly missed by her brother, Laurin Friedrick, and her sisters Evelyn Smith, Fern MacPherson, Cora Green, and Bertha Rensfelt as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
