Lloyd Pearl Purcell, 88, of Mount Vernon, Illinois died at 8:07 A.M. Saturday, March 8, 2014 at Mount Vernon Countryside Manor in Mount Vernon, Illinois. He was born on Thursday, February 18, 1926 in Jefferson County, Illinois to parents, Clerance & Nellie (Nelson) Purcell. He married Doris R. Smith in Hopkinsville, Kentucky on October 18, 1945 and she preceded him in death on March 26, 2005.

Lloyd is survived by two daughters: Connie Mays and husband Rev. David Mays of Edwardsville, Illinois and Sondra Rainwater and husband Larry of Mount Vernon, Illinois, five grandchildren: Traci Barnett and husband Mark; Adam Mays and wife Erin; Lydia Morse and husband Jeremy; Jody Rainwater and wife Tawny, and Joshua Rainwater and wife Crystelle, fourteen great grandchildren: Shantel Barnett; Mark David Barnett; Abbigale Barnett; Kyleigh Mays; Brenner Mays; Jayce Morse; Ariannah Morse; Brylan Rainwater; Kaycee Rainwater; Brianna Rainwater; Vince Rainwater; Piper Rainwater; Wyatt Rainwater; and Kadden Locklear, and sister: Wilma Jean Bruce of Mount Vernon, Illinois. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

His parents, wife and twin brother: Floyd Purcell preceded him in death

In his early years, Lloyd pastored at various churches in Southern Illinois; he was an electrician and heating and appliance repairman, he was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II and was a member of Howard Chapel Community Church in Opdyke, Illinois.
