Thomas Benton Barnette, 85,died Nov. 29, 2005 in Kissimmee, Fla. He was born Aug. 29, 1920 in Giles County, Tennessee to Grover Lee Barnette and Bessie Irene Adams Barnette. He grew up in Limestone County and went into the military at age 18. He was a tech sergeant in the Air Force when he retired in 1962 after 24 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Anna Lee Riddle Barnette. He had no children but shared with his wife, a step-son, Richard Freeman who died in 2004.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Morgan Adams Barnette, Morris Lee Barnette, Grover Lester Barnette, James Floyd Barnette, Billy Don Barnette and Robert Paul Barnette; two sisters, Estalene Barnette Tyler and Peggy Barnette Hearst; three nephews, Jimmy Tyler, Mike Tyler and Randy Rogers; and one niece, Ella Will Tyler Milliorn.
He is survived by three granddaughters, Teresa Freeman, Janet Jackson, and Karen Freeman; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Curtis Barnett and wife Martha Barnette of Kissimmee; one sister, Agnes Hesterlee of Omaha, Neb.; 24 nieces and nephews, including from Athens, Betty Jane Tyler Dollar Barbara Tyler Davidson, Julian Tyler and now living in Dixon, Mo., Charles Tyler; and a great number of other relatives and friends.
