Fern Christine (Eckerle) Amrhein, age 94, Brookville, Indiana passed away on March 1, 2014, at The Waters of Batesville. She was born February 13, 1920, in Franklin County to Albert and Amelia Eckerle. She was married May 25, 1940, to Maurice Amrhein, who preceded her in death. The homemaker lived most of her life in Franklin County. She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Brookville, an associate of the Sisters of St. Francis, Oldenburg, and a member of the Ladies Club of Oak Forest. For many years, she and Maurice owned and operated Queens Laundromat on Main Street in Brookville. She was devoted to her family and enjoyed immensely her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her favorite hobby was painting and many of her portraits of flowers, animals and rural scenes hang in the homes of her family members. In her later life, she enjoyed traveling to Hawaii and many countries in Europe. Her devotion to her faith also led her on a pilgrimage to Medjugorje, Yugoslavia. Fern was blessed with having many friends and acquaintances with whom she kept in frequent contact. She is survived by one sister: Helen Prifogle, Brookville; five sons: Michael (Donna), Batesville, Gareth (Bonnie), Deputy, Stephen (Catherine), Batesville, Mark (Barbara), Naples, Fla., and Rodger (Ana), Potrerillos Arriba, Panama; one daughter: Mary Horninger (Thomas), Brookville; 18 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. Also preceding her in death were brothers Herbert, Adrian, Albert, Gilmore, Raymond and James. Funeral services and Mass were held in St. Michael Catholic Church, in Brookville, IN on March 8, 2014. Burial followed at St. Michael Cemetery.
