Mary J. LaBarge, age 84, of Battle Creek, Michigan passed away Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at Heartland Health Care of Battle Creek. She was born July 19, 1929 in Romulus, Michigan the daughter of T.G. and Myrtle O. (Wright) Thomason. Mrs. LaBarge graduated from Cadillac High School, Cadillac, Michigan in 1948, then moved to Battle Creek where she attended Mullenex Business College. She had worked in the office of Emmerson Moving and Storage, and later was an accountant for A & B Janitorial Service for many years. She was a former member of First Wesleyan Church and was currently a member of The First Church of The Nazarene. Mary was an active volunteer for many years, working with Hospice and several organizations which assisted the homeless in the area. On October 8, 1955 in Angola, Indiana, Mary was united in marriage to Stewart H. LaBarge who preceded her in death on April 8, 1992. She was also preceded in death by seven brothers: Louie, Arthur, Gerald, Harold, Floyd, Kenneth and Tom Thomason and one sister: Esther Shedd. Surviving are her children: Stewart M. (Cythia) LaBarge of Bloomington, Illinois and Mary Ann (John) Corry of Sydney, Australia; and three sisters: Dorothy Hughes, Maxine French and Lucy Jones all of Battle Creek. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Thursday, February 13, 2014 at The First Church of the Nazarene with The Rev. Jim Spohn officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Custer National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday February 12, 2014 from 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm. Memorial contributions may be given to The First Church of The Nazarene.
