Cary was the son of James Thomas Berryman & Sarah Steele Church Berryman. He married Emma Portwood, the daughter of Ambrose & Louisa Miller Portwood, on November 21, 1888 in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. The couple were the parents of Lilian and Wheatley Hume Berryman.

Versailles, Ky., Dec. 23-Cary M. Berryman, 66 years old, retired business man, died early today at the Woodford Memorial Hospital after an illness of two weeks. Mr. Berryman was in the coal business here for many years, but retired two years ago when his health broke down.

Mr. Berryman was born at Clifton, this county, the son of James and Sallie Church Berryman. He is survived by his widow, a daughter Miss Lillian Berryman; a son, Wheatley Berryman, and four brothers, Clifford K. Berryman, cartoonist of the Washington Star; John W. Berryman, former postmaster here; Clifford S. and Harvey Berryman, all of Versailles.

Funeral services will be held at 3 o'clock tomorrow afternoon at the residence on High Street. Burial will be in the Versailles Cemetery.
