He was born June 11, 1925 in Normal to Luke and Alma Stoops. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Iola Juarez; two brothers, Samuel and Alfred and one infant granddaughter. He married Charlotte Stockle on July 29,1949 in Bloomington. She survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Terry (Barbara) Stoops, Gary (Cathy) Stoops and Steven (Linda) Stoops; sister-in-law, Marion O'Brien-Stoops; eight grandsons; one granddaughter; three step-grandchildren and two nieces.
A U.S. Army veteran, he served in the 4th Infantry during World War II. He farmed in the Cooksville area his entire life.
