CLELL SLOAN
Clell Sloan, of Dixon, was born on
April 18, 1907, at Hawkeye, in Pula-
ski County, a son of James Marion and Lucy Frances Keeth Sloan, and departed this life at 3:20 a.m., on Saturday morning, January 21, 1989, in the St. Mary's Health Center, Jefferson City. He had been in failing health for the last year and one-half due to cancer. Mr. Sloan had attained the age of 81 years, nine months and three days.
Mr. Sloan was united in marriage on December 1, 1929, at Swedeborg, to the former Miss Frona May Davis, and to this union five children were bom.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1946; his mother in 1973; four brothers: Orville Sloan, George Sloan, William Sloan, and Luther Sloan; six sisters: Mrs. Hattie Manes, Mrs. Ada Johnson, Mrs. Goldie Sloan and three infant sisters.
Mr. Sloan owned and operated Sloan's Shoe Repair in Dixon where he repaired shoes and made harness for all his working life, retiring in 1974 after 45 years.
Those left to mourn his passing include his wife, Mrs. Frona Sloan of the home in Dixon; three sons: Leroy Sloan, Dixon, Wayne Sloan, Dixon, and Steven Sloan, Jefferson City; two daughters: Mrs. Lorene Carter, Springfield, and Mrs. Willow Johnson, Maplewood; two brothers: Wilbert Sloan, Ozark, and Arthur Sloan, Buffalo; 15 grandchildren; five greatgrandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday afternoon, January 23, 1989 in the Dixon Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes with the Rev. Michael Lake, pastor of the Santee Community Church, Dixon officiating. A medley of appropriate selections were used for the prelude and postlude while "It Is Well With My Soul" was sung by Wayne Sloan for the service.
Interment was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Iberia. Pallbearers were Kevin Johnson, Danny Martin, Marvin Johnson, Chet Sloan, Craig Sloan, Garrett Johnson, Kurt Sloan, and Aaron Sloan.

In the heartbreak of the ages.

Today we saw where GRANDPARENTS lay
In the last sleep of their time
Lying under the trees and clouds
Their beds kissed by the sun and wind.

Today we wondered about an unmarked spot
Who lies beneath this hollowed ground?
Was it a babe, child, young or old?
No indication could be found.

Today we saw where MOM and DAD lay
We had been here once before
On a day we'd all like to forget
But will remember forever more.

Today we recorded for kith and kin
The graves of ancestors past
To be preserved for generations hence
A record we hope will last.

Cherish it, my friend; preserve it, my friend,
For stones sometimes crumble to dust
And generations of folks yet to come
Will be grateful for your trust.
