Joe B. Anderson MOUNT AIRY
Joe Bill Anderson, 77, formerly of Norfolk and husband of Sarah Nester Anderson, passed away Oct. 3, 2005, at Northern Hospital of Surry County in Mount Airy. Mr. Anderson was born in Patrick County May 18, 1928, to the late Joe Brim Anderson and Amanda McMillian Anderson. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Korean conflict and was a retired carpenter. Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Sarah Nester Anderson of the home; three daughters and a son-in-law, Nancy Bell of Virginia Beach, Lisa and Lee Hurst Jr. of Chesapeake and Laura Boyd of Chesapeake; two sons, Matthew Anderson and Joel Anderson, both of Chesapeake; five grandchildren, Courtney Bell of Norfolk, Amanda Hurst Bristol of Hawaii, Jonathan Hurst of Chesapeake, Heather Boyd of Norfolk and Brittany Boyd of Chesapeake; four sisters, Essie Bishop of Claudville, Va., Ossie Caldwell of Indianapolis, Ind., Dorothy Setzer of Norfolk and Polly Scales of Ararat, Va.; two brothers, James Anderson of Claudville, Va., and Roy Anderson of Westfield; and his mother-in-law, Eleanor Nester of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Anderson was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Anderson and two brothers, Raleigh Anderson and Austin Anderson. A funeral will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy conducted by Dr. Rick Jackson with burial to follow in the Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home, Mount Airy.
