James Wall Applegate, born Sept. 23, 1787; died July 16, 1845. He married Rachel Hollcroft, born Mar. 10, 1792; died Jan. 31, 1885. They lived in Forward Twp, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, residing on part of grandfather Benjamin's farm, probably on his father's portion.

Rachel was the daughter of John Hollcroft and Rachel Brown. John Holcraft was "Tom the Tinker" of the Whiskey Rebellion of 1793 and his picture is in the Washington County Historical Society, Washington, Pennsylvania.
