Death of John C. Ives--We are called upon to announce the death of another old citizen of Oswego. Mr. John C. Ives died at his residence, two miles west of the city, on Thursday morning, aged nearly 81 years. Mr. Ives came to Oswego in the year 1827, and was for many years an active and enterprising business man here, and was universally known and esteemed. He was a mason by trade, and erected a number of prominent and durable structures of the city. He built the stone residence now owned and occupied by Thomas Kingsford, Esq. Also the block of stone warehouses,on the dock, owned by Alvin Branson, Esq., and the stone block, corner of Cayuga and Water Streets. He was engaged on the Government Pier, the Ontario Fortifications, the Varick Canal, and the Ontario Factory building on that canal, which was burnt and its ruins still remain there. He also built the Cotton Factory buildings, and others. He was a man of energy, activity and influence. A number of years since he removed to the town of Oswego, two miles west of the city, where he has resided since. He leaves a widow and six children, the latter all married, one of the daus being the wife of Robert Van Horn. The deceased was several months confined to his room by illness before his death, and finally passed away peacefully and calmly to the land of the future.--Palladrum
