Harlan was the son of Harold Berdette McDaid and Martha Louise Currier. He married first Emma Jane Kirkwood on 21 Jun 1950 in Mansfield, Richland County, Ohio. He married second Bonita J. "Bonnie" Stahl on 19 May 1979 in Richland County, Ohio.

Harlan was born Feb. 28, 1937, in Jackson, Michigan, to Harold Berdette McDaid and Martha Louise Currier McDaid.
He lived in Detroit, Michigan; Rochester, New York; and Watertown, New York prior to moving to Mansfield.
Mr. McDaid retired as Vice President & Security Officer of Richland Bank in 1999. His 43-year career began after high school as an Installment Loan Teller. He moved into Collections, the Savings Department, ran a Teller Window, and managed the Bookkeeping Department before establishing Richland Bank's Data Processing Department in 1964. He managed the Data Processing Department until that department was outsourced. In 1993 he was named Security Officer and LAN Manager.
Harlan was a member of the First Congregational Church, former member of the Mansfield Lion's Club, the Mansfield Playhouse, and the Navy Reserve.
In addition to his parents, Harlan was preceded in death by a sister, Juanita Allen.
He is survived by a brother, Delbert, of Canandaigua, N.Y.; children by his first wife, Emma Jane Kirckwood McDaid, one daughter, Laurel (Matt) Aurigema; son, Alan (Theresa) McDaid of Columbus, Ohio. Son, Alan has two children. Children brought by Bonnie Stahl McDaid to their marriage in 1979 are S. Warren (Ottis) Stahl-Compton of Columbus, Ohio; and Wendy (Marty) Folino of Cincinnati, Ohio. S. Warren and Wendy each have one child.
A memorial service will be held at The First Congregational Church Chapel, 640 Millsboro Road, Mansfield on Thursday, Feb. 24, at 1 p.m. with coffee/tea provided after the service.
Memorial contributions may be made in honor of Harlan to the American Heart Association, Diabetes Association or The First Congregational Church.
