MANCHESTER - Anne (Blanche) Whitman, of Manchester, passed away at the Alfond Center for Health on Feb. 28, with her family by her side. She was born in 1941, the eldest daughter of George "Dana" and Hildreth (Hanson) Blanche.

Anne graduated from Hallowell High School and Farmington Teachers College. She taught elementary school in the Rumford and Augusta area schools before becoming school secretary at Farrington Elementary School. She was a member and past master of the Manchester Grange as well as a secretary and treasurer of the Manchester Community Church.

She was predeceased by her husband, Carl R. Whitman Jr.; both of her parents; as well as two brothers, Robert Blanche and Fred Blanche.

She is survived by her children, Wayne and Kim Whitman, Allen Whitman, and Ellen and Peter Mallow; her grandchildren, Laura and Justin Lamport, Jacob Whitman, Samuel Whitman, Hannah Whitman, David Mallow and Ava Mallow; and great-grandchildren Lily and Quinn Lamport. As well, she is survived by her siblings, Frances Duncan, Geraldine and Carl Douglas, Charlene Skene and Carlton, and Kathy Blanche; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Burial will be at the Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta. (Kennebec Journal 3/1/2014)
