Barbara Helen Shields was born November 23, 1848, at Abingdon, Knox county, Illinois, and passed away at her home in Tamora, October 30, 1925, at 7:25 a. m., at 76 years, 11 months and 7 days.
She was married to Aaron Conner November 27, 1884, at Lincoln, Nebraska. She leaves to mourn her loss, one sister, Caroline Shields, of Bushnell, Illinois; and two daughters Mary Martha Dowers with whom she made her home, and Caroline Marie Fender of Culver, Kansas; also three grand children and a host of friends. One son William Roy, departed this life nineteen years ago.
She united with the Christian church in Abingdon, Illinois, when a young lady. When she came west she went into the Christian church at Valparaiso, Nebraska. She lived a Christian life, was a kind and loving mother and a patient sufferer. She is gone but not forgotten.
The funeral of Mrs. Conner was held in the M. E. church Sunday morning at 10 o'clock. The funeral sermon was delivered by Rev. B. H. Christner and the pall bearers were Jeff Baker, Mr. Wood, G. L. McBride, J. W. Meek, Charley Eskridge and Lewis Booth. Appropriate music for the occasion was in charge of Mrs. Ruth Gembler, Mrs. Madge Booth, H. S. Wolfe and W. D. Kinnemon, with Mrs. Hazel Christner at the piano. Interment was at Valparaiso, the former home of the Conner family.
