Dorothy L. Shumate, 84, of Fairfield, passed away on March 16th, 2007, at Green Acres Nursing Home in Gettysburg.

She was born October 1, 1922, in Chambersburg, the daughter of the late Clyde and Modena Smith, Sr., of Chambersburg. Dorothy was the wife of the late Willie Shumate, who passed away in April 1978. She was also preceded in death by four brothers, John, Harry, Clyde, Jr., and Leroy Smith; and a granddaughter, Tynya Showers.

Mrs. Shumate was employed at Littlestown Manufacturing Co. for 10 years and retired from Econo Lodge in Gettysburg in 1993.

Dorothy is survived by eight children, Bobbie McGowan (Mary) of Chambersburg, Susan Lau (Mike) of New Oxford, Donna Gauge (David) of Iowa, Sandy Frock (Rick) of Fairfield, Sam Shumate (Deb) of Gettysburg, Bill Shumate of New Jersey, Pam Butler of Abbottstown, Pa., and Joyce Julien (Ray) of Alabama. She has 26 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
