The dates are estimates, based on various bits of gathered information (he died at age 35, we can't locate him on 1850 census, but we can locate his wife, etc).

Very little is known about him:
1) 1903 - Grandson Leo Agan's life insurance application indicates Leo's paternal grandfather died at age 35 from a falling tree.
2) 1921 - His son Edgar Agan's death certificate lists the name as Andrew (Edgar's daughter Lena was informant of that death certificate).
3) 1970's - Family story from Leo's granddaughter Irene is that death was from being struck by lightning.

To combine #1 & #3 - so maybe lightning felled the tree that fell on him.

An interesting death notice appeared in the 05-June-1850 issue of the ROMAN CITIZEN newspaper of Rome NY. It mentions the death of a "JOHN AGAN or AKIN" that died at the age of 35 after being struck by a locomotive near the Syracuse & Utica freight house. Interesting that the locomotive was named "Lightning of the Express". However, I don't believe there is enough evidence to believe the newspaper was referring to the subject of this memorial.

Andrew's burial is believed to be in Maple Hill, but doubtful a marker has survived.

3 known children, however little is known about the daughter Alvina. Just some early census data and some vague references in old family letters.

1) Myra/Alvina
2) Edgar Jay
3) Sarah Jane "Jennie"
