Pearl Kaler, in her "The Genealogy History of the Rearick Family and Descendents, 1911 - 1992," states that Samuel and Emily had eight children.

However the 1900 Census states that Emily was the mother of 9 children of whom 8 were then still living.

Samuel and Emily were the only Rearick/Rarick family with those initials (S. & E.) living in this area during John's short life. Also, this John's dates easily would fit within the dates for the other children. The conclusion, therefore, is that this John Rearick is in fact a "lost" child of Samuel and Emily Rarick.
