Moses brown grew up in Buncombe county North Carolina. He was the son of Henry Brown and temperance Wakefield. His father Henry Brown was a early pioneer of North Carolina he was a noted trader and hunter. Before the war Moses married Charlotte Lettie J. Green and had many children. his primary occupation was farming. In April 29 1861 Moses enlisted in Company B. 16th North Carolina infantry regiment. He was killed on December 19, 1861 at Manassas Virginia. Contrary to what some people have said he was not creamated. He was buried in the Manassas confederate cemetary. Like many confederate soldiers his grave is now unmarked. It was most likely knocked over or broken.

We the under assighend holders plea --- James M. Pain J.P. , Nathaniel Davis, B.R. Dogget have met according to order of court on the 21 day of January 1862 and has proceeded to lay off or allot to the L.J. Brown, widow of Moses Brown dec. The following (viz) all the corn on land, four head of. Cattle, 6 head of fat hog, 6 head of stock, 6 head of sheep and Moses Brown served in the southren confederacy five dollars on William Waldroup and the crop of growing weat and all the household and kitchen furniture and all the farming tracts on hand--
