James C. Aardahl, 84, Minot, died Monday, December 2, 2002, in a Minot nursing home.

James was born December 31, 1917, in White Earth, ND to Andrew and Olena (Lerohl) Aardahl. He was raised and educated in White Earth.

He married Ruth Iverson in Stanley, ND, on September 21, 1938. The couple lived in White Earth until 1952, when they moved to Tagus and then to New Rockford in 1955.

As a young man, James became employed with the Great Northern Railroad. He moved from laborer to section foreman and then to road master of the Minot Division in 1955. He completed 42 years with the railroad, retiring in 1977, from the Burlington Northern, which was formerly the Great Northern. In 1995, they moved to Minot. Ruth died December 28, 2000, in Minot.

James was a former member of First Lutheran Church, White Earth and New Rockford. He was currently a member of Augustana Lutheran Church, Minot. While in New Rockford he taught Sunday school for many years and helped with the Men's Annual Waffle Supper. He was an active lifetime member of the New Rockford Central North Dakota Steam Association, serving as president for eight years. James was also a member of the Railroad Veterans Association and the Masonic Lodge of New Rockford. He loved to restore old tractors and cars, and enjoyed working with steam engines. James was also an avid boxing fan.

Survivors: Daughter, Corrine (Dale) Semmen, Minot; sons, Darrel (Linda) Aardahl, Mill Creek, WA, and Marvin (Miriam) Aardahl, Saugus, CA; son-in-law, James Schneider, Tulare, CA; daughter-in-law, Diane Loftstrom, Hauser, ID, WA; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Morris Aardahl, Seattle, WA; sister, Bernice Auverson, Minot; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth, daughter Lorraine Schneider, son Loren Aardahl, his parents and three brothers and two sisters.

Funeral: Saturday, December 7, 2002, at 10 a.m. at Augustana Lutheran Church, Minot, ND.

Visitation: Friday, December 6, 2002, from Noon until 7 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Burial: Kristiansand Cemetery, rural White Earth, ND. Burial will take place at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
