Derrill was very active in promoting peace after his only child, 20 year old Deora Bodley, was killed on United Flight 93 in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
Along with his peace activism, he was a musician and composer, playing piano, organ, saxophone and flute.
Derrill is survived by his wife of ten years, Nancy Lee Mangum Bodley; brother Walt Bodley and his wife Sandra; stepdaughter Eva Rupp and her husband Bill Hardman; grandson Theodore Hardman and nieces Jessica Aaron and Corina Rowe.
