Don Wilson Martin passed away Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, in Dallas. Memorial service: 10:30 a.m. Friday at North Side Baptist Church in Weatherford. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel. Don was born in Poolville to Murray and Ruth Martin. He was one of six children. Don had a passion for bowling, was a fan of John Wayne and he could quote scores for the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Rangers. Don served our country for 22 years, first in the U.S. Marine Corps and then in the U.S. Army. After retiring from the service, he spent a lot of time traveling with work as a self-employed courier for the advertising industry. Don married Barbara and together they blended their families into one. Together they raised their families in the Weatherford area. Proud members of North Side Baptist Church in Weatherford, Don and Barbara celebrated 25 years of marriage in May 2013. Don was preceded in death by his sons Kevin Tilley and Brian Tilley; brother Murray Earl Martin, sister Daphne Peel and his parents Murray and Ruth Martin. Survivors: Don leaves behind his bride, Barbara; son, Brett Shumway and his wife, Tracy; daughters, Karen Shumway, Mary Martin; son, Don Andrew Martin and his wife, Shelby; daughter, Jennifer Robinson and her husband, Will, daughters, Karen Sharp, Cynthia Tyre, Gaylene Tilley; sister, Mary Frances Inman and her husband, Dave; brothers, Paul Martin and his wife, Linda, Ronnie Martin; 19 grandchildren; and a slew of great-grandchildren.
