Katheryn Virginia Madden Votaw, 95, passed away Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014. Cryptside service: 2 p.m. Friday in Independence Chapel at Greenwood Mausoleum. Entombment: Greenwood Mausoleum. Katheryn was born March 31, 1918, in San Antonio to Alice Dean Madden and Charles Madden. She was the granddaughter of the late James William Madden, a lawyer in Crockett, who was Texas' secretary of state 1897-1899. She grew up in Austin, educated in Austin public schools and at the University of Texas at Austin, where she became a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority. Katheryn married Byron Eugene Votaw in 1937. For 35 years she was executive secretary/administrator for Ted Weiner, an independent oil operator in Fort Worth. She was a member of University Christian Church, emeritus member of Altrusa International, Fort Worth, Woman's Club of Fort Worth and Gamma Phi Beta, and was the first female member of the Petroleum Club of Fort Worth. Katheryn loved to travel with her friends. She was of generous spirit, strong faith and was grateful for the many gifts of this life. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1989. Survivors: Niece, Terry Ann Lesley and husband, Anthony, and their son, Nick, of Albuquerque, N.M.; and nephew, Charles Madden of Mercer Island, Wash.
