Born in Bras d'Or, he was the son of the late Harold and Charlotte (Jellotta) Devoe.
He was a member of St. Joseph Parish, Bras d'Or.
Gerald is survived by his loving wife Lillian; son Wesley (Darlene); daughters; Shirley (Edward) Scott, and Heather (Stan Bonise); daughter-in-law Vivian. Brothers; Harold, Franklyn, Ambrose, Melvin, and Tremaine. Sisters; Hilda (Hopton), and Phyllis (Dupis). Gerald is also survived by seven grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
Besides his parents Gerald was predeceased by his son Garland; brother, Joey; sister, Erma Buffett and son-in-law, Gordon MacDonald.
In keeping with his wishes cremation has taken place under the care and direction of JM Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. A celebration of Gerald's life will take place on Saturday February 22, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, Bras d'Or with Fr. Jake Andrea Officiating. A reception will follow in the parish hall.
In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton or a charity of one's choice.
