"Jesse C. Queen, 73, of 704 S. Willis, Independence, was pronounced dead yesterday at the Independence hospital. He apparently suffered a heart attack. Mr. Queen was employed at the Sheffield Steel plant 23 years before he retired seven years ago. He was born in Caney [sic] county, Missouri, and lived in Independence 48 years. He was a member of the R.L.D.S. church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ethel F. Queen of the home; three sons, Edward E. Queen and Jesse Queen, Jr., both of Independence, and Earl R. Queen of Wichita; two daughters, Mrs. Elberta Brockman of Independence and Mrs. Rhoda Pollard of Sugar Creek; five brothers, J. L. Queen of Carnegie, Okla., S. R. Queen of Buffalo, Mo., John M. Queen of Mountain View, Calif., C. G. Queen of Springfield, Mo., and Howard N. Queen of Sunnyvale, Calif.; three sisters, Mrs. Cordelia Shaffer of Gashland, Mrs. Mary Loveland of Springfield, and Mrs. Frances Ficklin of 2829 Troost; 37 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 10 o'clock Friday at the Floral Hills chapel; burial in Floral Hills Cemetery." The Kansas City Times, July 24, 1963
