Westminster, SC – Clyde Arthur Barker, 90, of 2120 Oakway Rd, died Friday, July 11, 2008 at his residence.
Born in Pickens County in 1917, he was a son of the late Jerry A. and Leila Hunnicutt Barker. Mr. Barker was the owner and operator of Barker's Shoe Shop for over 40 years. He was a member of the Seneca Masonic Lodge #185 A.F.M. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and had served as a deacon.
Survivors include wife Virgenell Marcengill Barker of the home, daughter Carolyn Foster and husband Harold of Seneca, brother Rev. Thomas Barker of Pickens, sisters Lucille McClellan of Seneca, Dot Wilbanks of Central, and 3 grandchildren, Lane Foster, Janice McLeod and Regina Carroll and 6 great grandchildren, 4 step-children Carolyn Parker, Gail Brock, Claudie Marcengill and Sharon Driver, 6 step-grandchildren and 14 step great grandchildren.
First married to Lucille Taylor Barker and then to Mary Hicks Cole Barker, both deceased, he is also preceded in death by brothers J.C., Fred, Edward and James Barker and sisters Polly Harper, Nell Tuck and Evelyn Barker.
Funeral services will be 11 am, Monday, July 14, 2008 in the Sandifer Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Oconee Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends 3 – 4:30 pm, Sunday, July 13, 2008 at the funeral home. The family is at their respective homes.
