Julia was the daughter of Alexander and Julia Gertz Weber of Switzerland. She married Fred Smith on 28 November 1889 in Lucas County, but they later divorced. They had Helen (1899) and Carlton (1896). A third child, a boy, born in 1890 died the same year. JUlia died from a coronary thrombosis at the age of 68 years 2 months and 3 days.
