John Hemry
John Hemry, eldest son of Abram and Mary Ann Hemry, was born in Crawford county, Ohio, NOv 2, 1838, and passed away at his home in York Twp, June 2, 1923, aged 84 years, 7 months.
He passed his youth and grew to young manhood in Ohio. He was married to Rebecca Jane Ramsey June 30, 1864, and to this union was born three children, Cora E., Fernando and Carl D, all preceeding him in death. His wife also preceeded him, having departed this life, Dec 13, 1905. He was a member of No 231 Steuben I. O. O. F. and also a member of No 251 K. P. lodge. In both of these he enjoyed the fellowship, in his younger days, scarcely missing a meeting.
With the passing of Uncle John Hemery, as he was familiarly called, another pioneer has gone to his reward. We do well to honor the memory of these men who cleared the land enduring the hardships of pioneer days.
He was a kind and obliging neighbor, and many remember kindnesses shown them. He helped many in a financial way to tide over losses of many kinds. His life of energy, perseverance and courage will be cherished as a tender memory by his friends. He leaves to mourn his departure Andrew, his brother, and four sisters, Mrs. Nancy Stants, Mrs. Lydia Powers, Mrs. Delilah Franks, Mrs. Eva Gamber, and one half sister, Mrs. Lizzie Headley, and also two grandsons, John Barns and Kenneth Hemery, one grandson preceeding him in death and three great grand daughters, besides a numer of nieces and nephews and many friends.
Funeral service was held on Monday, June 4, 1923, at the Powers church, Rev Harry Belles, officiating.
