MRS. HARRIET HAMMITT ANSWERE FINAL SUMMONS

Mrs. Harriet Hammitt, an esteemed resident of this community, who located here in 1895, passed away Monday morning at one o'clock. She had been ill for about ten and a half days, following a stroke of apoplexy.

Services were held yesterday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock from the home and at 2 o'clock from the Congregational church, with Rev. G.A. McKinley officiating. The 51st verse of the 15th chapter of 1st Corinthians was used by him as his text.

A male quartette, comprising H.P. Trumbo, W.F. Brower, G.A. McKinley and A.B. Canady, sang "Beautiful Land", "Wonderful Peace" and "We'll Never Say Goodbye in Heaven". Mrs. McKinley was the accompanist.

The pallbearers were Tjark Jansen, Geo. Fischer, Martin Schoneboom, G. M. Jacobsen, R. M. Paine and Jas. Webster. Interment was made in the Wall Lake Cemetery.

Relatives attending the funeral from a distance were Mrs. Bert Martine, of Olean, Mo., Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Bunch, of Eldon, Mo., Mr. and Mrs. J.S.P. Moyer, of Lincoln, Nebr.; Mr. and Mrs. Wyette Moyer, of Ceresco, Nebr.; Mr. and Mrs. E.T. Shriver and Mrs. Eva Oakes, of Sioux City; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Smith, of Gladbrook; Mrs. Edna Wood of Garwin, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Jarvis and Mr. and Mrs. John Crawley, of Sac City. Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Mason and son of Westside, and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Mason, of Carnarvon.

Mrs. Hammitt was a devoted wife and mother, kindly and pleasant in all the relationships of life, and of a cheerful and wholesome disposition. She will be greatly missed by her children and in the community where she has so long been a respected member. The Resort extends sympathy to the survivors.

Harriet Ellen Moyer was born Sept. 3, 1851, in Lycoming County, Pa., of German and French ancestry. She died at Lake View, Iowa, on Oct. 12th, at the age of 80 years, month and 9 days.

When but two years old, she moved with her parents to Illinois, where they lived for a short time, moving from that place to Tama County, Iowa, where she grew to womanhood.

On Oct. 26, 1872, she was united in marriage to John Hamm. In 1880, they moved to Storm Lake and from there to Lake View in 1895. Mr. and Mrs. Hamm were the parents of six children, all of whom survive the passing of their parents. Mr. Hamm died Dec. 13, 1905.

On Dec. 25, 1912, Mrs. Hamm was united in marriage with Charles A. Hammitt at Lake View, who passed away on May 14, 1927.

Mrs. Hammitt joined the Baptist church at Storm Lake and after locating in Lake View united on April 4, 1914, with the Congregational church, of which church she has continued to be a consistent and devoted member, taking an active part in the work of the church, the Ladies Aid Society, Sunday School and Missionary Society.

She leaves to mourn her departure her six children, Mrs. W.D. Hull, of Roper, Kansas; Fred C. Hamm, of near Sac City, Iowa; Mrs. Bert Martine of Olean, Mo., and Wm F. Hamm, Mrs. Emra Mason and Lester F. Hamm, all of Lake View, Iowa. She is also survived by three brothers, J.S.P. Moyer, of Lincoln, Nebr., Henry K. Moyer, of Loretto, Nebr., and Charles J. Moyer, of Riverside, Calif. Also by 17 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
