MORMON PIONEER OVERLAND TRAIL. The John Amos Lewis (1814-1887) Family traveled with the Darwin Richardson Company on the Overland Trail in 1854. About 300 individuals and 40 wagons were in this independent wagon train when it began its journey from the outfitting post at Westport, Missouri on 17 June 1854. The family … John Amos Lewis (1814-1887), father; Priscilla Merriman Lewis Phillips (1811-1887), step-mother; and children Amelia Priscilla Lewis (1852-1891), Ann Lewis (1836-1913), John Samuel Lewis (1854-1908), Louisa Mary (1839-1920), William Lewis (1847-1928) and Frederick Lewis (1844-1920) … arrived in the Salt Lake Valley on 30 September 1854. The company continued westward.

Gravesite Details

When the original tombstone was broken and needed to be removed a new tombstone was made. The cemetery personnel said the new one got the death date wrong.
