Mary Elizabeth Wilson Johnston beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on February 8, 2014. Mary was born on June 29, 1940, in Palestine, Texas, to C.C. (Check) and Ethel Gray Wilson. After graduating from Slocum High School, she attended East Texas Business College and Stephen F. Austin State University. She and Don Johnston were married on August 21, 1959. They moved to Houston where their son, Tracy, was born. Her church family was an important part of her life, and she touched many lives with her quick smile, compassion, and sense of humor. She was a tenacious advocate for those she loved. The grandchildren called her "Gia" and her greatest joy was spending time with them. She loved movies, gardening, fishing, and Broadway shows. She and Don walked across the Brooklyn Bridge on their 52nd wedding anniversary. Mary is survived by her husband, Don; son, Tracy Kent Johnston; daughter-in-law, Aleta Nohr Johnston; and grandchildren, Kaitlin Elizabeth Johnston, Joshua Kent Johnston, and Julianna Nohr Johnston. A memorial service will be held at Sugar Land Baptist Church on February 13 at 1:00 pm.
