Andrew T. Bosen, 82, of Portsmouth NH, died at his home surrounded by his family on Aug. 17, 2004. Born in Haverhill MA on May 27, 1922, he was the son of the late Theodore and Calliope Bosen.

Andrew was raised in Haverhill and attended Haverhill Trade School. His family moved to Portsmouth in 1937, and he had lived in Portsmouth ever since. Andrew served in the United States Army during World War II and was employed as a welder and a computer technician at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. Andrew was also involved in real estate until his retirement in 1971.

Andrew devoted much of his time and energy to the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, where he was a member for the past 67 years. He served on many of the church's committees, including the Parish Council, The Greek Festival, The Hellenic Cultural Committee, and the annual raffle. Andrew's greatest contributions were his silent acts of kindness and volunteerism. He was not a person to look for recognition; rather, he was an unsung hero. On Thanksgiving Day, he could be found delivering turkeys to the poor. He spent his free time at the soup kitchen of the Salvation Army. He was a quiet, humble, caring, and thoughtful person who left his loving family and his acts of kindness as his legacy.

Andrew was a member of the St. John's Lodge No. 1 F&AM of Portsmouth and American Legion Frank E. Booma Post No. 6.

Andrew was recognized by his fellow parishioners in 1995 as the recipient of The Diocese Laity Award. The honor is bestowed on the individual who best exemplifies not only the Greek Orthodox Christian way of life, but also provides outstanding service to the Church.

Andrew is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Ethel; his daughter Colleen and son-in-law Ted Georgian of Andover MA; brother Kemon and sister-in-law Carol Bosen of Portsmouth; grandchildren Alison Georgian of Woburn MA, and Andrea Hahesy and her children Emma and Tess Hahesy, of Topsham ME; and many nieces and nephews.
