Robert J. Crooks

OLEAN -Robert J. Crooks, a World War II Navy veteran, formerly of South 25th Street, died Thursday (Jan. 30, 2014) at the Pines Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

Born March 15, 1923, in Franklinville, he was the son of Fred and Frances Silloway Crooks. Mr. Crooks was a graduate of Ten Broeck Academy of Franklinville and served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946. He was a quality inspector for Dresser-Rand in Olean for more than 30 years. He enjoyed photography, painting, going to air shows, and was an avid ham radio operator.

Surviving are a stepdaughter, Faith Carr of Frankford Mo.; a brother, James Crooks of Franklinville; a sister, Judy McFadden of Little River, S.C.; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Robin Crooks, in 1974; and a sister, Charlotte Martiny, in 1978.

A military grave side service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday (Feb. 3, 2014) in Mount Prospect Cemetery, Franklinville.

Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
