CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Bernice R. Kauffman, 84, of Falling Spring Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and formerly of 4220 Olde Scotland Road, Chambersburg, died Sunday Jan. 9, 2005, at the nursing home.

Born Oct. 2, 1920, in St. Thomas Township, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Grover C. and Ruth E. Byers Shatzer.

Her husband, Howard H. Kauffman, died July 20, 1997.

She and her late husband owned and operated a farm near Chambersburg.

She was a member of Scotland United Methodist Church.

She is survived by
two daughters,
Carolyn K. Bowers and
Marian K. McCleary, both of Chambersburg;
one son,
Leonard H. Kauffman of Chambersburg;
one brother,
Robert Shatzer, of Edenville, Pa.;
nine grandchildren; and
seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister and four brothers.

Services will be Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Chambersburg.

Viewing will be Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Scotland United Methodist Church, 4040 Scotland Main St., Scotland, PA 17254.
