Catherine L. Brown was the youngest of ten children born to Albert Brown (1815-1881) and his wife Sarah Atwell (c.1812-1886), of Iredell County, NC. He father was a Confederate soldier.

Around 1877, Catherine married Charles Edgar Wilkinson (1852-1929), a son of William Wilkinson (1793-1870) and his second wife Drucilla Hampton (c. 1805-1867), who came from Rowan Co., NC and ended up in Lancaster Co., SC. Catherine and Charles lived in Mooresville, Iredell County, NC for a while, then sometime in the late 1880s moved to Greenwood, South Carolina. They lived at 1003 South Main Street, Greenwood, for many years.

The 1900 census states Charles and Catherine had 10 children, 8 then living. I only have the names of the eight:

1. Daisy Rankin Wilkinson (1879-1948) m. William C. Claxton (1880-1923) of Port Arthur, Texas, in 1917, married John Bascom Eskew (1868-1956) of Greenville, SC, sometime in the 1940s.

2. Johnsie Brown Wilkinson (1880-?)

3. Charles Manardie "Charlie" Wilkinson (1881-1946) m. Maude Glover (1889-1977), buried in this cemetery.

4. Albert Stamey Wilkinson (1883-1955) m. Minnie. buried in this cemetery.

5. Junius Wilkinson (c. 1886-?)

6. Kate M. Wilkinson (1890-?) m. Mr. Smith

7. Lucile N. Wilkinson (1892-?) m. Claud Riley Emerson.

8. Ruth L. Wilkinson (1894-?)

Apparently, Catherine died sometime before her husband Charles died on 8 Dec. 1929, as his death certificate lists him as a widower. I haven't yet been able to find a death record for her.
