Earl Gene Peppard, 86, died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014, in Roswell, N.M.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Canyon First Assembly of God Church with the Rev. David Morgan, pastor, and Damon Deaton, pastor of Faith Community Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Holley Funeral Home Inc. of Canyon.
Earl was born Dec. 30, 1927, in Canyon to Eugene and Ella Murrel Peppard. He graduated from Canyon High School in 1945 and received a bachelor's and a masters degree from West Texas State University.
He served a little more than a year in the Army Air Corps. As a young man, he was very active in Canyon First Assembly of God Church, where he was a deacon. He married Karen Bruner in 1961. He worked as an auditor for the federal government for 31 years. His job carried him to Los Angeles, Shreveport, La., and Fort Huachuca, Ariz. After retirement, he moved back to Canyon, where he enjoyed working on his property. He loved to travel on the scenic back roads of long Texas highways.
Survivors include three sons, Todd Peppard of Amarillo, Sam Peppard and wife Toni of Artesia, N.M., and Mark Peppard and wife Roeanne of Corpus Christi; five grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and two sisters, Mary Rowton of Oklahoma City and Shirley Mills of Fort Worth.
The family suggests memorials be to Canyon First Assembly of God Chruch.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
