Stark Fish was here this week selling computing scales. He has some very old documents found in his grand-father's papers. One was dated Nov. 16, 1778 giving an oath of allegiance, attested by Robert Page, of Virginia. Other papers indicate on what vessel the original head of the American Fish family sailed from England back in 1720 who apprenticed himself to the captain of the ship to pay his passage after making the money in America to do so. This indenture was sold to an American to whom was paid in full, later on, the original amount of agreement. From these papers it is learned that the Fish family had its beginning in this country 182 years ago.
