Johnny Cunningham returned home in the early morning hours of Nov. 19, 2005, as he gazed into the eyes of his loving wife, with his family by his side. There to welcome him home were his parents, Chas and Grace; brothers, Donovan and James; sister, June Mitchell and his beloved grandson.

Johnny was born January 24, 1933, in Wadestown, W.Va. His family relocated to Carmi, Ill., in 1937. He began working alongside his father in the oil field at the age of 10, honing the skills that would eventually become his life's work.

Johnny was a veteran of the Korean War, serving his country in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955. On March 6, 1953, he married "the love of his life," Mary Carol Ackerman. Their love story spans 57 years.

In 1968, Johnny and Mary Carol moved to Farmington, where he began laying the ground work for what, in 1979, became JC Well Service Inc. and R & J Enterprises, Inc. A self-made man, Johnny worked hard to build a respected business and earned himself many friends along the way. Known for his honesty, wit and sly sense of humor, his presence will be missed around the table at the coffee shop.

In February of 2000, he was severely injured at a well site. He fought a hard battle to recover and returned to his work and the business that he built, showing that the ability to overcome adversity lies within.

The riches of a life well lived are reflected in the eyes of those he loved and those who love him. Johnny will one day be reunited with his true love, Mary Carol Cunningham of Farmington; his children, Tamara Prespentt of Houston, Texas, Tonya (John) Begg, Tangela (Jake) Hayes, Tiffany (Greg) Gomez, all of Aztec, and Bobby (Robin) Espinosa of Farmington; grandchildren, Jasen (Siromani) Prespentt, Jihana (Guermo) Rehlander, Joriana Prespentt, Jeremy (Chelsi) Espinosa, Jeren (Brandy) Espinosa, Jaade (Chris) Robbins, Justen (Jamie) Espinosa, Jenner, Jensyn and Johnny Begg, Jonny (Jessica) Rino, Jamey (Issac) Esquibel, Jeffery (Mandy) Rino, Duane Hayes, and Michael, Jhett and Jaityn Gomez; great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Adahra, and Amahni Prespentt, Dahila, Damian, and Daijah Raelander, Daryn and Ashlyn Espinosa, Jereth Espinosa, Sheyla, Skylynn, Saige and Sehvanna Robbins, Jhae and Justen Espinosa, Jourdyn, Jonny, and Jovanny Rino, and Taishja Esquibel. Also waiting to join Johnny, his sister, Mary Ann (Ronald) Braisher of Oklahoma, and his brother, Joseph (Norma) Cunningham of Missouri, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23, at Brewer, Lee & Larkin Funeral Home in Farmington, with Pastor Leroy Montoya officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Farmington, with military honors conducted by the VFW Post No. 2182 of Farmington.

Pallbearers will be his six oldest grandsons, Jeremy Espinosa, Jeren Espinosa, Justen Espinosa, Jasen Prespentt, Jonny Rino and Jeffery Rino.

Honorary Pallbearers will be all of his friends from the coffee shop and Johnny's valued employees.

"Go Rest High on That Mountain." We love you.
