He joined the Army serving 23 total years between active duty and the National Guard. He went to work as a civilian employee with the 35th Engineer Battalion teaching the Army Bridging Academy.
He was preceded in death by his mother, a brother Darrell Tyree and a step-brother Jimmie Bever.
He is survived by his wife Nida of Licking; three children Elizabeth Tyree, Evelyn Tyree and John W. Tyree all of Licking; grandchildren Kobye and Kayden Dunigan; his father and step-mother Charles and Erma Tyree of Houston, MO; siblings Ronald Tyree, Don Tyree and Janis Fleming; half-brothers and sisters: Edward Crider, Michael Crider, Adatha Davis, Pamela Mitchell and Douglas Crider; step-sister Sharella Bever and step-brother Eldon Bever, also numerous nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
