About 1702, the family moved from New Jersey to Shoomac Park, Philadelphia, PA., which was known as Roxborough Twp. Some time after the death of his father in 1720, Thomas Sr. migrated to Bladen County, North Carolina. Settlers from NJ and PA were moving into the Carolina's included the FitzRandolph, Singletary and Russ families.
Thomas Robeson Sr. received a land grant in 1735 on the Cape Fear River from King George II, upon which he built his homestead "Walnut Grove". His will was probated 9 November 1775 (Bladen Co., NC Abstract of Wills 1734-1900).
Thomas Sr. and Sarah Singletary Robeson had the following children:
(1.) Col. Thomas Robeson, Jr.(1740-1785) m. Mary Bartram a daughter of William Bartram of the noted Bartram family of Philadelphia.
(2.) Mary Robeson (1745 - ) m. James Council
(3.) Peter Robeson (1749-1794) m. Elizabeth Lord( ) d. of Peter Lord.
